Curated by Amy Rahn, “Open House” is an art exhibition that explores “home” as a concept detached from the familiar architecture of the house. Artists Angelo Arnold, Kate Brandt, and Mary Zompetti each approach the meaning of “home” from richly varied perspectives. Arnold’s “familiarture” upholstered sculptures, Brandt’s insightful, darkly humorous video works, and Zompetti’s ephemeral, meditative photographic works re-interpret the space and essence of “house” and “home”, grounding the viewer in a contemplative space. Here, viewers are invited to see “home” as a concept open to interpretation, and a space open to exploration.

Kate Brandt is a multimedia artist whose work is influenced by every day performances. She received her MFA from the Film, Video and New Genres Department at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2010 and is currently pursuing her Masters of Art in Art History and Criticism at Stony Brook University. Her work has been exhibited in various cities, including New York, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia and Milwaukee, and in 2009 she received the Kodak Product Grant. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

Angelo Arnold is a visual artist who primarily creates furniture–inspired anthropomorphic sculpture. He received his MFA in Studio Arts/Sculpture from The Ohio State University. He is the recipient of a Berkshire Taconic Artist Resource Trust Grant and multiple fellowships and awards for his sculpture and community work. He also shows his work in national and international juried exhibitions with collections in Ohio, Louisiana, Maryland, and Vermont. Angelo is a lecturer at Norwich University and resides in Montpelier.

Mary Zompetti is an artist and educator living and working in Vermont. She uses photography, video and installation in her work. She is an Adjunct Professor in Art at the Community College of Vermont and Champlain College and is pursuing an MFA from the Art Institute of Boston.

The gallery is made possible through the generous support of Opportunities Credit Union. Kate Brandt’s installation is made possible with support from Lyric Theatre Company and ReSTORE.
