CALL TO ARTISTS

Kasini House is seeking artists to participate in a unique project centered in downtown Winooski. The Winooski Pop-Up Gallery District aims to create an instant gallery district using vacant spaces in downtown Winooski.

ABOUT THE EVENT

The Winooski Pop-up Gallery District transforms downtown Winooski into a vibrant hub of contemporary art for six weeks in June and July. The event includes art exhibitions; music and other cultural events; activities for children; and showcases the community of Winooski–its shops, restaurants, and history.  The event will kick-off with a grand opening the weekend of June 22nd and continue through August 4th. The galleries will be open Thursday through Saturday from Noon to 6PM and Sundays from 10AM to 4PM. The Winooski Pop-up Gallery District is produced by Kasini House and the Winooski Welcome Center.

2012 vs 2011

This year’s Pop-Up Gallery District will operate differently from last year. Artists will not be required to staff galleries which, in 2012, will be staffed by volunteers. Artists are encouraged to volunteer, but it is not required. The Falls and Stoplight Galleries will exhibit large art, installation work, and curated exhibitions. Pop-up Pottery will become the Pop-up Artist Studios and become a working artist studio for artists who want to occupy the galleries and make art at the location. Artists may exhibit their work in the space as they see fit. What were the Top and Welcome Galleries have been combined and are now the Winooski Welcome Center & Gallery. Ric Kasini Kadour is curating “Hello from Vermont”, a diverse selection of art by contemporary Vermont artists, that will be exhibited in the space.

GENERAL ARTIST INFO

All artists must be registered and current with the Vermont Art Guide Artist Database (formerly, the Art Map Burlington Artist Database). Installation will take place between June 8th and June 20th. Artists interested in the Pop-up Artist Studios or the Hello From Vermont exhibition should complete the online form. Curators proposing installations or exhibitions should submit proposals using the instructions below. Questions? Send an email

Pop-up Artist Studios

The Pop-up Gallery District aims to connect artists at work and the general public. To this end, we seek proposals from artists who would like to work on site or in Winooski. A space will be dedicated as an artist studio. This space can accommodate 5-7 working artists and is equipped with a utility sink. Artists may exhibit their work in the space as they see fit. Artists selected to participate in the Pop-up Artist Studios must agree to work in the space a minimum of four hours per week and to coordinate with the district’s volunteer coordinator to maintain staffing. Artists are also encouraged to offer talks, classes, kids activities, and other events.

Hello from Vermont

“Hello from Vermont” presents contemporary art from the Green Mountain State. In 2011, nineteen artists participated in an exhibition of Vermont art in Montreal that explored the diversity of art from around the state. Those artists, with an additional sixteen, were published in a catalog with the same title. The art includes painting, sculpture, ceramics, fiber, and installation from some of state’s leading artists. In 2012, Ric Kasini Kadour will continue this exploration of Vermont art through a two-part exhibition and a catalog. The first exhibition will be part of the Winooski Pop-up Gallery District June 22nd to August 4th. The second exhibition will take place June 6th to August 25th at Galerie Maison Kasini in Montreal.
